Mike Lovell Obituary, Death: Mike Lovell, a cherished member of the Evant High School Class of 1974, passed away, at the age of 56. He died at The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 19, 1966, in Santa Ana, California, Mike was the son of Larry and Elaine (Long) Lovell. After graduating from Lawrence High School, he attended The University of Kansas, where he earned both a Bachelor of General Studies and an MBA. It was at KU that he met Deann McDaniel, the love of his life, and they married on October 14, 1989, at Danforth Chapel.
Before pursuing higher education, Mike served in the United States Marine Corps. His dedication to fellow veterans led him to serve on the board of the Spencer C. Duncan Make it Count Foundation. Professionally, Mike retired in 2017 as a Director of Product Management from DST Systems. He was also an active member of Hope Chapel in Olathe, Kansas.
Mike was known for his adventurous spirit and zest for life. He was an avid golfer, runner, cyclist, and camper, and he spent 20 years as a SCUBA instructor, diving with sharks. His family and friends remember him for his humor, sense of adventure, and unwavering positivity. A colleague fondly recalled how Mike’s smile reflected his inner joy and how he always leaned into challenges with a smile on his face .
He is survived by his parents, his wife Deann, their children Garrett Michael and Destiny Hannah, and his beloved dog Kaya. He is also survived by his brothers Ronald (Sheila) and Jason (Amy), brothers-in-law Dean and Ken, nieces Isabelle, Allysen, McKenzie, nephews Austin and Alexander, and numerous golf buddies . Hope Chapel in Olathe, Kansas, with a private graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were made in Mike’s name to the Colon Cancer Coalition and the Spencer C. Duncan Make it Count Foundation. Mike Lovell’s legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched with his kindness, courage, and infectious enthusiasm for life.
